We’re going on a Treasure Hunt: Shipwrecks
We’re going on a treasure hunt and we discovered…..A SHIPWRECK! A deadly crossroad, the Straits of Mackinac connecting Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. It was our desire to travel “somewhere in time” by visiting Mackinac Island with it’s grand hotel and horse drawn carriages (no cars allowed on the island). Somewhere in time also whispers beneath the waters surface from a graveyard of ships. Many things contribute to shipwrecks….unexpected weather, poor visibility, resistance to new safety measures, aging equipment and a combination of small errors made by several individuals. Sometimes our family looks like a shipwreck and we feel discouraged. There was not smooth sailing through the crossroads. An island of safety was not reached. Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said this, “When those who should love, nurture, and protect us fail to do so, we feel abandoned, embarrassed, hurt. Family can become a hollow shell. Yet, with heaven’s help, we can come to understand our family and make peace with each other.” He says to let good things begin with us. One way we can do this is by connecting the roots and branches of our living family tree, finding all our generations. A lighthouse is a point in the storm and a guiding beacon. That is you! Your family tree is a place of healing!
