We’re going on a Treasure Hunt: A COUNTRY
We’re going on a treasure hunt and we discovered…..A COUNTRY! Three years ago, standing at Niagra Falls, in Buffalo, NY, Bethany asked, “Can we go to Canada?” I asked, “Do we have any Canadian ancestors?” A question is a powerful vehicle, and this week we stood at Niagara Falls in CANADA! It was discovered that we have 3 lines of Canadian ancestors. Trying to make friends with all of them has taken us to Green Bay Wisconsin, Brown County Library; Ottowa, Canada, Canadian Archives of Canada; New Brunswick Canada cemeteries. Last year, in a family history class, I learned that the majority of records are not digitized and are in archives. We now hold library cards to the Archives of Canada Library, and our new friends there helped us locate an index that is not online. On this treasure hunt we found gold….a mother’s name that has been holding up research for years. We can now locate this family in the French records digitized and online. What countries are part of your family tree? Can the Family History Guide website or FamilySearch WiKi help you get started on research in another country?
